A Finn preparing a work on the Russian hunting traditions and customs, comes to Russia to collect materials and is invited to take part in a hunting party. Inevitably, their good intentions soon give way to endless drinking, visits to local farm girls and much else besides. This is a reference to a well-known Soviet joke poking fun at academics whose adherence to the party line often resulted in nonsense. The joke: Competing to write a book on African elephants, a Frenchman produces a volume on the love lives of elephants; a German writes a 21-volume series titled 'A Brief Introduction to the African Elephant', and the Soviet writer comes up with just one sentence: 'The African elephant is the best friend of the Soviet elephant.'

Just like its predecessor 'Osobennosti Nazionalnoi Okhoty,' this movie has this 'it's too Russian for the outsiders to understand'-vibe going on. Not that it's a lot of fun to watch even if you are Russian. With exception of a few funny gags that are based on Russian drunkyard humor (which, indeed, is probably too Russian for the outsiders to understand; then again, if you think you can get it - give it a try), there is nothing the movie has to offer. The only exception is interesting rumination by Buldakov's character about the role and influence of vodka in Russian life and national character.
